BT Openreach 2025 Switch Off

2025 Openreach Switch Off

The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is due to be shut down by the end of 2025. Some telephone exchanges have already ceased analogue services - Salisbury and Mildenhall, with other exchanges scheduled to close during 2023 and 2024 - every phone number you wish to keep needs to have moved off your local telephone exchange before it closes.

Before this date, any existing traditional phone services and numbers on BT/Openreach phone line, including Single Analogue Lines, Multi-Lines, ISDN2 and ISDN30, will need to move to alternatives - this means a cloud phone system, a hosted IP system with SIP Trunks or an on-premise system with SIP Trunks.

Moving to a cloud system will offer new, flexible features including home working, inter-site calling, voicemail to email and many others - in addition there should be a cost reduction for most businesses.

Phone Numbers will need to Port away from the local exchange onto your new chosen IP service, this will be managed by Apptel as part of our migration process.

Any other lines such as alarm lines, lift lines, card machines will need to move onto other services - we can advise what the alternatives are, but everything must move.

Please call Apptel on 01985 620133 to discuss what you need to do.
